Jalal Hossain, of Bremen, entered the next phase of his journey on 1st February 2024. Born in Dhaka, Jalal had called Germany home since 1989.
Jalal was a beautiful soul and musical innovator known for two decades of groundbreaking contributions to the global independent music community as the creator and moderator of POPSCENE with J*A*L*A*L and a video show in the 1990s called GAZING, both of which sourced new music for audiences that few other shows around the world had yet to discover, providing a unique platform that helped to promote new artists from the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom.
Winner of the Bangladesh National Television Children’s Award for Percussion in 1977, bestowed by President Zia, Jalal was a talented musician in his own right and member of several bands beginning in the 1980s. Jalal also recorded and mastered albums and tracks for internationally known musical acts distributed around the world today.
Beloved husband, brother and uncle, Jalal is survived by his wife and musical collaborator Rebecca, brothers and sisters Babul, Belal, Helal, Khuku and Musu, and nephews and nieces Navin, Shirin, Mohona, Upoma, Chondra, Charulata, Shumon and Kiron as well as cousins and friends.
